6th Grade Computer Literacy -   6 weeks

Our main goal in 6th Grade Computer Literacy is that students master basic skills in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, File Management, and learn and understand Internet safety and digital citizenship.  Students are taught Internet Safety every year in school.  We hope to build on their knowledge to help them be safe, know how to respond and make good choices when using the Internet.  Students will also review and improve their typing skills Typing Training which is an updated version of Custom Typing which we used last year.

Keyboarding:www.typingtraining.com  6th grade students will be in a computer guided mode where the program choices are set up.  They required to finish the lessons that cover all their fingers.  (The last required lessons are the llittle fingers.)  I recommend that students complete more of the lessons to improve their WPM and accuracy.  I believe the program will be available to them online until about June 2014.  Students can not use the program until they have Computer Lit class and they are enrolled in the program.

7th Grade Computer Literacy - 6 weeks

Our main goal in 7th Grade Computer Literacy is that students master basic skills in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Powerpoint, File Management, and learn and understand Internet safety and digital citizenship. Students are taught Internet Safety every year in school. We hope to build on their knowledge to help them be safe, know how to respond and make good choices when using the Internet. Students will also review and improve their typing skills Typing Training which is an updated version of Custom Typing which we used last year.

Keyboarding:www.typingtraining.com   7th grade students will be in a self- guided mode.  Students will be given a worksheet that they are required to complete by the end of the 6th week term. The worksheet includes a review of some basic "training" lessons followed by some lessons in the "Tests and Excercises"  section.  the Test and Exercise lessons give students results showing their wpm and accuracy.  Their goal is 95% accuracy and 15-20 wpm.  I recommend that students complete more  lessons than are required to improve their skills and reinforce typing with the correct fingers.  . I believe the program will be available to them online until about June 2014. Students can not use the program until they have Computer Lit class and they are enrolled in the program.

8th Grade Computer Literacy - Virtual Vacation Digital Magic!  - 9 Weeks

8th Grade Computer Literacy is project based.  Students work in groups and  plan a Virtual Vacation to a destination any where in the world that they would like to go.  Research about the destination is divided up between team members.  Students also plan and research travel arrangements, and lodgings.  Each student will be responsible for one day on their trip, planning an acitivity and a restaurant they will eat at.  If the destination is famous for any food they should include that in theiir research.  Students review and learn research skills and about citing sources.  They will put their research into a Powerpoint presentation.  Each student will make their own Powerpoint, and when they are all complete the group will merge their Powerpoints and present to the class.

Students will also use Adobe Photoshop Elements 7.0, photo editing software. The students will learn basic photo editing skills..  We will use green screen photography.  Students will take their pictures in front of the green screen and pick a photo from their destination that they would like to put themselves in.  Using Adobe Photoshop Elements students will merge the green screen picture and the destination picture.  The final picture will be saved as a jpeg, a picture format, and inserted into their Powerpoint.  This creates a picture of them on their virtual vacation.  These pictures are very creative and look great in student's presentations!

Students will also use Adobe Premiere Elements, video editng software. Students will learn basic video editing skills.  Similar to the photo techniques stated above.  Students will take a group video in front of the  green screen.  In this video team members will be responsible for telling the audience about the destination information they researched for their trip.  Students will choose a background video taken from their destination.  They will merge the two videos using Adobe Premiere Elements.  Students will edit the video and audio, and add a 5 second black video introduction to their movie..  If they have time they can add a 5 second rolling credit video at the end of their movie.  All students will make a movie. These videos are fun to watch and give the students great experience in front of the camera.

File Management - Students will review good file management skills and learn new and advanced file mangement skills.  They will become very familiar with the network drives and how to save or copy their files from one location to another.  They will also learn how to make better titles for their files and folders because they will be working with many different folders and files in different network locations on our Virtual Vacation project.

Internet Safety and Digital Citizenship - Students are taught Internet Safety every year in school. We hope to build on their knowledge to help them be safe, know how to respond and make good choices when using the Internet.
